Waiting For the Black Devil Stallion
Wyoming’s wild black stallion was anticipated for days
he had been spotted in the open country on Monday last
we sat on our porch nightly, staring out into the openness
would he come for his mares? They were ours now, right?
the sound of thunder brought our attention to the hills
moon in full orb was his background; we felt his power
he raced over the rise, the one we had heard of
the devil stallion, brute force. And he did not leave alone.
