Waiting For Mary

My work long over
I wait for my lover.
We hold one another
til morning draws nigh
then with it
our long goodbye.
Bittersweet are these nights
when she is partly in my life.
Bitter the parting
sweeter still the loving.
To greet the dawn in her embrace
to watch the sun illuminate her face
in this earthly life would be
simply amazing grace.
