Wading Naked

Wading naked
By arianne bungay

The nails go through my wrists
And the hammer brings blows to my back
As I wade naked on the bloody stone platform
Being laughed at and patronized
The faces all look the same
The arguments will never change
Friendships never to be seen again
Love is gone with every tear I shed
I close my eyes and smile
With every stone that is thrashed at my head
Knowing that this is the day
The day to prove myself
So I embrace the pain
Fighting to stay alive at the same time
Proving to the ignorant people that I was right
Ending with a good cause behind my name
There is one face that stands out
A little girl
She is neither laughing nor crying
She looks irritated, maybe even angry
I imagine myself in a white dress
With long auburn hair
I go up to her and ask her what is wrong
She enlightens me
Telling me that she is not only fine
But she is waiting for me
So I wade naked
On a bloody stone platform
Letting her slip into nothing but memory
As I let go of everything
And I lay there smiling
The laughter around me stops
The patronizing is over
Friendships never to be seen again
Hand in hand with a little girl
Having my heart sowed and mend
Knowing that this is where it ends.

Arianne, sometimes "embracing the pain" can help us heal. I loved this work. Carolyn

Strong words Arianne (love that name by the way) You can feel the emotions sweeping through from shame, to defiance, finally to a peacefulness in dying. I like this! Much love, Steve
