Visiting the Witch
What wonders within your hollowed cheeks abide?
What wisdom beneath the stench of yesterday’s meal?
What lessons are contained within each cavity?
Daring the darkness that surrounds your soul,
what abiding strength and knowledge will I find?
The courage within me echoes your countenance
revealing to me what was always there.
Your cackles reverberate and travel down my spine.
Your glittering eyes, of wicked humorous bend,
pierce me, enclose me and shake my soul.
Absorbing that which oozes from your pores,
In mute horror, as my bones crack and mend.
The gnarled nature of you marks me.
Fear regains its aspirations
now seasoned with an understanding of futility.
A proper place is formed within me
where knowing and unknowing can weave their magic.
Holding both, excluding neither,
a ripening, a deepening,
an awakening, a transformation.
I smile.
The beauty shines so strong now!
Yet the whisper of your cackle echoes in my eyes,
lending substance to the grace.
