Visiting Our Friend

We visited our friend today,
                                       it has been many years,
                                      since last we said,
                                                 hello.

                                       Remembering the calmness
                                          and joy
                                                 we once shared,
                                         walking and reflecting on life.

                                        Surprised this time,
                                          she appeared quite angry.
                                         Giving us crashing waves,
                                              and strong winds.

                                         Stilled we walked ,
                                            and tried to explain how,
                                         life had created distance,
                                            but memories remain.

                                         Inconsolable,
she would have none of it.
                                           But after time she may
                                                       meow.

                                          For now,
                                             she remains perturbed.
