Vision of the future
I was born through the whispered wish
of angel
purple clouds draped
my newborn sky
I tasted dreams
in chocolate ice-cream swirls
the tender embrace of bruised knees
and flushed cheeks
guided me through childhood
I soared high
on a second-hand bike
my grandpa’s smile
a beacon of joy
as I reached for the sky
in the swing
amidst the trees
he tenderly planted
their leaves the hue
of my favourite sunsets.
Pink rose petals glistened
in the morning dew
amidst the aroma of freshly brewed coffee
and the distant crow of a sleepy roaster;
My most cherished dawns.
My best friend's laughter
the distant memory
of a rusty bell
books crammed on the kitchen table,
as I chased after the dreams of my youth.
My sister's joyous voice
always danced through our home
a carefully woven protection spell,
over my childhood memories.
My father's care; silent invisible ink
steadily carrying me through every dream
I was too scared to chase.
my mother's kiss;
countless angels whispering wishes
through the universe.
Love’s strongest soldier
shielding my heart in her tender hug.
I grew up,
blissfully unaware,
of the world that lay dying
outside my window.
Of those empty homes
and dry souls
blue light screens,
and red dead hearts
changing as fast as touch
images of carnage
forestalling the future
my fearsome reminders of adulthood.
My grandma's prayers still linger,
hidden,
under my skin,
my divine shield
against encroaching shadows
guarding off the darkness,
lacing hope,
into the very fibres of my bones.
every thirteen billion years
in the realm of nothingness
a universe blooms.
Hold on.
