Virtual Reality

Why is it
That no man can walk alone
Without being burdened with sorrow
That we measure our worth
Solely on the opinions of others

Why is it
that an inanimate object can claim
So much of our lives and replace all
Need for any real sentiment

Why is it
That we've allowed the internet to be
Our go to for comfort, our refuge, our God
What excuse have we chosen to isolate ourselves
From a world we fear to hate

While it is true that this medium has
Taken over our lives by giving
A false illusion of being connected to one another
When the reality is that we are all here
For the same reason - The need to fill a void
That's what keeps us hooked

Everyday, requests come in come out but
Very few who gain access to you
Ever speak or ever care to do so

At the end of the day, we are
Just another annoying post waiting to be deleted
Another face waiting to be blocked or erased
All the while, someone who truly cares
Is waiting but ignored
Someone who truly cares
Someone who truly matters
Someone we can see eye to eye, face to face
The only real embrace
