Notes About The Poem

The possibilities are real.  Who really discovered America?  Asians crossed  The Beringia Land Bridge to discover a fertile unpopulated virgin land. The very first to discover the New World now called the Indigenous people or First Nation.  The first Europeans to discover the new world not the first poeple on earth, were Lief Erickson and the Vikings who rowed his boat ashore and landed in the year 1000 AD. Centuries before the Italian Christopher Columbus.

Anaya, it's wonderful to see the record set straight. Not many take the trouble to do that. Smiles, of course!!!

I love this senryu based upon a simple truth, Anaya. Next up, a debunking of the legend of Thanksgiving? :) This topic of misremembered legends will make a great theme for a contest ...

Ha, (lol) No one ate turkey on the original Thanksgiving, completely made up by the poultry industry! Turkey wasn't selling. ~ Thank you, again Su at times I write notes so quickly & it bites me in the end when I do not fix the mistakes. Also fixed the history stuff in notes section--caps ! Delighted to have inspired you poetess, I'm honored :D

Your poem and some of the comments at the blog inspired me to write my latest poem, 'echoes of lore'. Who knows whence inspiration comes? ;-)

Ty. History can be. At this time we still question, who really were the first to discover America.

It's pre-Columbus day, just some real facts about who discovered America. Nor am I Asian, I'm giving credit where credit is due. I added notes! :)

2nd line reminds me of the song, Michael, row the boat ashore. What does the final line refer to?

It was actually Peter, PAUL & Mary - the line is in the public domain. ;-)

Vinland is America & yes, I was thinking about the song by Peter, Paul & Mary. (fixed!) The Vikings were the first to discover North America, they named it Vinland, & it didn't get frost in winter nor did the grass wither, it was Valhalla meaning heaven on earth! They tricked the world, named one land Greenland but it was icy & the other Iceland, which was green to fool others not to come. Guess it explains our president wanting Greenland back, eh?(Lol) a pre-Columbus Day True-Fact!
