Mom & Dad, 1955
In the corner weighing 200 pounds trying to make myself small to escape notice in the fog of Dad's drunken rage. Waking in darkness seeing in light from the living room Dad's bloody face begging Mom to take blame for the accident. Around the dining room wiping up blood from Mom's broken nose while Dad worries she called the police after she left. Cowering with Mom inside as outside Dad like a mad cowboy rides the bulldozer threatening to destroy the house. At the funeral lacking power to give Dad's life back to him mourning the lose

That's a beautiful picture of your Mom & Dad. If I hadn't read the poem, I'd have thought that they are happy. I feel sorry that you had to be the adult, and that so much was put on your shoulders. Best wishes for recovery.

Thank you. Dad passed away in 1986. It took my siblings and I a long time ro recover from the trauma caused by his alcoholism.

So many grow up in tough homes. I was one of the fortunate ones, but I'm beginning to believe I may be in the minority. Heart breaking poem

Thank you. It was tough growing up with an alcoholic father, but it could have been worse. I read absolute horror stories about things that went on in other households!
