Congrats, Caren. Finally seeing your poem and memories come to me of that time in our history. Such a waste of young life!

I remember watching black and white videos of the Viet Nam War while we ate supper, and being horrified!

I love this one, Caren. It hit hard. I placed this at the bottom because the syllable count was wrong (I think) lol But it would have been a 1st place winner with the others and should have been. If I am wrong about the syllable count I am truly sorry. Hugs Charlie

Charlie, I am so glad to be anywhere in the line up, do not worry. I am a country girl, and my syllable count only makes sense to me. I refuse to go by any other one. Have a great day!

Since man was born, there was always war and monsters. Hitler gets Number One and Stalin, number Two. I was in many peace marches in Chicago with my daughter who was very young on someone's shoulders. Today we have a war of terrorism showing up here. None of us are safe. Panagiota

It is so sad; this world seems darker but when you meet the right people, and they are out there, lighter...

Nicely done Caren, I can remember it well, so many young men were dying they upped the age to serve if my memory serves me right. Good luck. Tom

I remember watching some of the horribleness on black and white TV as we tried to eat supper. We lived in a small poor county, and so many of our boys got taken, for that fact alone. Many came back completely changed, but more did not come back at all.
