Viet Nam Veteran Reflection

There are other things besides the years That make the young grow old I 'v learned that bullets hurt worse than football knees or broken noses Or even slaps from pretty girls I'v learned there's no way home without some kind of private crucifix That just might be for now Another year of solitude.

My brother and my best friend are disabled, decorated Nam vets. This was a screwed up war where the sacrifices and horrors these guys went through were never appreciated. I was Navy 63-69 and left to protest the war, not the vet. We protected oil rights and France's rubber trees while our own troops were expendable. As usual, we lacked true leadership in Washington.
