Victorian Virtue
VICTORIAN VIRTUE
Victorian virtue left bare -
ivory shoulders, pulsating neck
i hear the tinkle of chimes
and the brisk flapping of his cape
his sultry voice, rich and romantic,
hypnotic
suddenly the dagger of teeth
sink
into the darkest carafe of my neck
warning unheeded
i play back how i laughed so hard
at the spooky report
“Wear garlic, ye virgins!”
now my rose perfume
scents the hospital room
where he returns for moonshine elixir
as i die a slow death
and the centuries pass
and i sink my teeth
into my victims’ weep
my boots carry their ashes
the brisk wind sweeps them away
