Victim Or Victor

"I am a victim" one man cries
Losing faith and strength to fight
And forever brutalized by the act
That keeps him from the light.

"Victimized" another says,
"But I'll the victor be.
The harder that you push me down
The greater the rise you’ll see!”

The victim must keep up his guard
To fend off the next blow,
But the victor becomes vulnerable
To allow the blessing's flow.

In truth, the title requires that
Each soul makes a choice:
Live in agony as a victim,
Or as a victor have a voice.

Both routes are hard, and include pain
That only the soul can feel.
The first feeds the monster's appetite
But the second helps one heal.
