Veteran

Veteran
we left the comfort of home
relied on the eyes of the drone
repelled the hate of your enemy
and the harsh words that were said to me
you will always have scares
when you fall that hard
it is what we do with the healing
to take this life and its beginning
from the debit of our oath
civilian or soldier we owe them both
we Honor the Veteran today
remember and thank them
because no one knows the miles
we put on our boots
and the souls that pounded
ground, air and sea
so don’t take for granted the freedoms we
breathe for every breath was the last for the brave

Gregory, we do not honor veterans as we should. Just look at all the poetry here. We are selfish or maybe never learned that freedom is not free. Anymore than a free lunch! Thank you for telling it like it is. I have no idea what it's like to be in a war. And thankful for writing such a great, poem with a purpose. Wonder how many will include veterans as part of their Thanksgiving prayers, Panagiota
