Verses in the Ash

Verses in the Ash

In the ash of Pompeii I am what survived
Where everything turned grey something stayed red
After the explosion silent wind sang verses
Sulfur choked the love garden and my soul turned to dust

Where everything turned grey something stayed red
I became the mother huddled over her own child heart
Sulfur choked the love garden and my soul turned to dust
Even my hunger was preserved like untouched bread

I became the mother huddled over her own child heart
I was lost for years until your hands started digging
Even my hunger was preserved like untouched bread
The fire of your lies faded but ash kept my soul blue

I was lost for years until your hands started digging
Yes your grief killed my passion but seeds were planted
The fire of your lies faded but ash kept my soul blue
Pompeii is the ruin of my heart under a grey blanket

Yes your grief killed my passion but seeds were planted
On red walls my wounds bled graffiti that read I survived
Pompeii is the ruin of my heart under a grey blanket
I am the fresco no fire could erase

On red walls my wounds bled graffiti that read I survived
After the explosion silent wind sang verses
I am the fresco no fire could erase
In the ash of Pompeii I am what survived
