Venus and the Moon

A crescent moon was visible Last night from in our car And close to it was Venus, Shining like the brightest star. It really was a special treat To look up in the sky And gaze upon such beauty, Needing just the naked eye. I’m such a sucker for the moon So it was a delight To be greeted by its presence On a crisp and wintry night.

There is a fancy alignment of the planets going on right now. I like how your poem tells how the moon got caught up with the planet Venus.

When I take my dog out to relieve his bladder (often about 3 a.m.) if there's no cloud cover I gaze up at the sky. I often see Venus, the Big Dipper, etc. But the most spectacular sight is a double star whose name escapes me. In summer I also can spot Mars by its red color. And o. occasionally I see a shower of meteorites. The night sky is really a spectacular experience. / Maurice
