Vega

I come from the planet Vega
In the constellation Megadore
Every one of us eats plant food
There’s not a single carnivore.
To make our food taste better
And here the plot thickens
We use artificial flavouring
To make it taste like chicken.
Sometime for variety we even
Make it taste like fresh fish
Or even beef, ham or pork to
Add some variety to our dish.
I come from the planet Vega
Where our diet is complete
But some of us just can’t resist
The tempting taste of meat.
We only eat plants on Vega
Not like your awful carnivore
But we need to enhance flavour
Because plants food’s such a bore

I am a vegetarian, have been since I was 15 years old, and back then Vego food was vegetables and nuts, then there came processed food in a can like dog food that tasted edible if you put tomato sauce on it. Then it all started to look like meat ! Bacon flavored vegie rashers, chicken nuggets that actually looked exactly like chicken - sausages that you could cook on a barbie.. It seemed like they were encouraging vegetarians to hide the fact. Your poem is great Terry and has the whole story wrapped up ! Love it.
