Valhalla
The world grows intoxicated.
I grow intoxicated.
The stagnant, ingrained scent
Of the 8th generation of cats in the living room.
I cast it off now and leave this place.
Having left a secret window open for them,
They shall discover!
The hidden stairway,
That stairway to heaven.
The moment their paws step upon it,
The scent of autumn, the writhing of all manner of crying flowers.
They have drunk of the new world's flight,
Realizing food lies in unseen places,
Realizing sleep lies in unseen places.
Sometimes, when they miss their butler, they lie upon the grass,
Rubbing the ingrained scent of the butler's servitude
Onto the grass with their whole bodies, casting it away,
'And blow it away in the wind.'
The cat now runs!
I, too, run!
Another day shall greet us.
'The dewy dampness of the dawn's embrace.'
There, your hunger shall be sated,
And thus, you shall begin the world anew.
You shall never look back upon this place,
For the secret window has now crumbled into dust.
I, too, shall depart through my own window.
'Rain shall fill my hunger,
And discarded paper shall shelter my cold!'
The life that shall find me is,
The echo of past cat cries, reborn,
Leading me on with a hymn,
Keeping me running still!"
With the ring on my heart,
Bound fast by your hymn.
Cat, you too shall run.
Holding the warmth of the butler's past hand in your jelly pads,
You shall leap even over vast, towering walls.!
'We owe one another.'
'We shall meet again!'
"Valhalla!"
Suddenly, the Lord
Strikes me across the cheek.
"Snap out of it! This is but a dream."
Still,
I am the Catcher in the Rye,
Guarding the 7th generation of cats.
Yet, one generation of cats
Truly departed through the secret window.
I am not the Catcher in the Rye for the 8th generation,
I was merely a Catcher in the Rye who was briefly asleep.
I am but a coward,
Guarding only the 7th generation.
'Someday,'
I shall cast away myself,
And you, too, shall cast away yourselves.
"We, shall meet again!"
In the quantum realm,
Where nothing exists,
Where 'nothing' truly exists,
'Amidst particles and waves,'
"We were, in the end, wave functions."
