Vagabond Dreams
A fire crackles
stoic, grizzled men
lean into the heat
warm their hands.
Vapors of a past
rise from the ash.
Feigned laughter
fuels the oft repeated lies
recalls the hum of the rails
the irresistible whistle
the swaying rhythm
rocks them to sleep
in their vagabond dreams.
