Vaeloria Chapter 7 - Anatomy of the Aethel Sea
Where liquid velour beats the basalt spires,
And crashing surf ignites in phosphorus fires,
The Aethel Sea dissolves the twilight spark,
To roll in heavy rhythm through the dark.
Here lies the littoral of glass and stone,
Where mineral chemistry has claimed its own,
A landscape spun of quartz and diamond sand,
That gleams like jewelry across the strand.
High on the purple cliffs of pure design,
The deep geometric nesting alcoves line,
Protected by a porous, crystal lace
That shelters life inside its warm embrace.
Below the tide, the amber siphon-ferns
Perform the tasks a shifting balance earns:
They filter heavy salts through deep-sea veins,
To wash the brine away from coastal plains,
While glass-spun reefs of intricate design
Protect the shallows where the currents line.
But beauty carries shadows in its grace,
And hunters move across this vibrant space.
From plush depths, the Aethel-vipera *glides,
With ribbon-body riding out the tides,
A predator of pitch, absorbing light,
That stalks the Nesting Spires** in the night.
It hunts by heat inside the midnight mist,
Seeking the flesh that moon-lit prisms missed.
Yet nature balances the lethal blade;
Against the dark, a counter-mesh was made.
The shifting Pterostrix ignites its crest,
To match the guardian moons above its nest,
Dissolving in a crimson, sapphire sheen,
A ghost upon the rocks, untouched, unseen.
The Scuttlers ***scrape the moss from stone and shell,
While waves of deep magenta pulse and swell,
A perfect clockwork of the sea and sky,
Where ancient coasts let living light fly high.
* Aethel-vipera - a predatory sea creature with a ribbon-like body that glides up from the plush depths of the sea. It has pitch-black, light-absorbing skin that allows it to blend into the darkness. It stalks the nesting spires along the coast at night, using heat vision to hunt prey through the midnight mist.
**Nesting Spires - high, purple cliff structures made of rock and mineral formations along the coast. They feature deep, geometrically arranged alcoves protected by a porous, crystal-like lace structure that shelters coastal life inside a warm, sheltered environment.
***Scuttler - a coastal creature that feeds by scraping moss off stone and shell surfaces along the littoral shoreline, serving as a clockwork component of the sea's balanced ecosystem.
****Deep-sea Amber Siphon Ferns - sub-aquatic plantlike organisms located beneath the tide that maintain the environment's ecological balance by filtering heavy salts through deep-sea veins, effectively washing brine away from the coastal plains.
