Vacuity

Sinking deep and deeper still
Feelings of weakness becoming my will
In search of answers
To questions I'm too afraid to ask
I look to the future
But can only see the past

Such a strong connection
Or so it once had seemed
But you grew too impatient
To let me catch up to speed

Out of breath
I stopped to rest
And without even noticing
You kept right on going

Suddenly the abandoned
I pined for you, my companion
Satisfaction turned to sadness
My hopes trampled and flattened
I stayed here waiting for you to return
I waited and waited
And endlessly yearned

Alone I sat in my place of repose
Wondering where all the years
continued to go
I waited so long
I became part of the scenery
Blending into the background
It's as if no one really sees me

And as each eternal moment
Fades into the next
I long for you, I long for your love
And sometimes I long for death

It would have to be better than knowing
You could so easily leave me behind
Without even telling me you were going
And giving me a chance to say goodbye
