Urban Heat

The city swelters
mercury nearing 100 degrees
The crowds are really feeling the hear
Steam rises from the street
As workers with shovels dig out the asphalt
Urban hear is something you remember
The sexy outfits of the young women in the city
Makes life bearable
The endless spectacle that is our metropolis
leads us to believe once again
Urban Heat
We walk feeling the rays from
the sun on our heads
The air is thick
As the day wears on
stars appear in the night sky over the city
The air cools
At twilight you decide
how best to survive summer in the metropolis
Stars appear in formations in the sky
Tomorrow is a long way off

this isn't a ballad, but it does have good descriptions of the heat (btw, sp. "thick") your last line makes we wonder more about this area - why is tomorrow a long way off if the day is already cooling and the stars are out? makes me wonder about the night life. maybe that is another poem in you?

Tomorrow is never a long way off for ME, Matt. Love the imagery here for this urban heat! About sweet lips. Never had the pleasure of that kiss. I actually had a dream about a man kissing that way!! that's where I got the poem idea!

Yes, it must be hot with towering building that absorb heat as well as the asphalt streets..It has been hot in Georgia this year but cooled down with some rain but that raises the humidity..I am just glad that there is something called AC..I am glad that I chose this one to read today..Creative topic and presentation..Thanks for stopping by..Sara
