Notes About The Poem

Upstream in Autumn

The riverside is crowned with autumn gold; Tall poplars trail sunlight through the stream. Their trembling towers unravel in its gleam, As mirrored branches loosen what they hold. We trace the bank upstream; the shallows sing Where water slips through channels in the stone. The golden spires behind us stand alone; Pale branches shade the waters of the spring. Ahead, a babbling brook now lies. Cream and silver, flushed with a rose hue, Twisted coloured trunks come into view And stand out in the glow of autumn skies.
