Untrue

You say you love me, but your love's untrue
I do not feel it in the things you do
and when you say it, coupled with a "kiss"
the searing heat of passion's what I miss

You say you love me, but I am alone
Such loneliness to you might be unknown,
and even when you're near, you're far away.
I cannot reach your heart with what I say.

You say you love me, but your eyes tell lies
I see a look that does not idolize
The windows to your soul are curtained now
I cannot see inside; I don't know how.

You say you love me, but your arms deny
to comfort and caress me when I cry
At times when storms let lose torrents of pain,
a shelter in your love I cannot gain.

You say you love me, but it can't be real
A lukewarm sentiment is all you feel
For love's inferno licks with flames so hot
I tell you now, all this your love is not

I want a love that sweeps my heart away
that makes me crave your presence night and day
I want a love that loves the worst in me
A love that binds my soul though body's free

I want a love that melts in its embrace
that testifies its presence in a face
I want a love as fierce warrior's will
A love that quiets fear, makes madness still

I want a love that all my thoughts consumes
A love that dreams in buried heart exhumes
I want, I crave, I covet love that feeds
That satiates my soul, fulfills my needs

You promised me a love that lasts all time
A love like that you have, but it's not mine
I get the crumbs while others get the feast
For lack of such a love my heart's deceased.

You have such a way with words. This is so well expressed and sad. I’m sure there are many who can relate. If I go back to my first marriage this rings so true. Thankfully the last 33 years have been far from this experience.

Great pen Eileen, full of passion and romantic love and great rhyme. I hope all is good with you, I've had a dry spell lately but think I'm back on cue again. Blessings, Gordon

To love someone is easy. To love someone like they want to be loved is a different thing altogether. Very well written, Eileen:) See, you still write love poems magnificently!

True... and that's why we have poetry. ;) It's the best lover. Wrote a poem with that title some years ago. Thanks for the encouraging words. Much appreciate.

Woe, woe, woe. A work like this takes hours for a muse to perfect. And perfect it is. And I wonder if It really you.

I'm not sure what to make of that last sentence, but it's really me. Thanks for the compliment.

Wow, Eileen, this is powerful and strikes deep. Different people have different versions/tastes of "love", and it appears that many are happy with what they have, even if the chemistry fizzles out instead of making a bang! For those who experience passionate and all consuming love, nothing else will provide true satisfaction. ~ Glad to be reading your work again, my friend. Hugs // paul

Is true love out there??? Your poem crafts a very satisfying model so many fail to achieve or maintain. Bittersweet yet such earnest yearning. I want that!!!! =o]

Thank you for your comment. I guess that's why romance novels, movies, and such do so well. We are all hungry for that kind of love. It's fictitious...to be sure. At least, that's the case with most people.

wow! this is so powerful, eileen! your descriptions of the love you want compared with what you're actually getting is beautifully spelled out, although it's a sad state of affairs. ~ i hope the new year brings you happiness and the kind of love you deserve...

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. Ideal love is hard to find. Actually, it takes work because it isn't just a feeling, but rather a principal.

So brilliant - so true... it is heartbreaking, but trembles with the rhythms of graceful rhymes and the story of a life that is still desperately alive. God bless you always. with love, Gina
