Untitled '96 - 2

You had hoped for tears
in some peculiar way,
you almost wished to weep
but did not.
You almost wished to weep
but did not bother.
You had no desire
to break your languishing comfort
in search of the chain of paper -
conveniently, smirkingly soft -
that would clear the morose slime
from your still dignified nose.
You returned,
perhaps again to weep.

Thank you Maureen. The raw stuff, when I was young. I've enjoyed reading some of your very pointed-but-not-always-pointed work too, by the way. Few words with mystifying charm.
