Unshakable shame Quite strange to explain I lather and rinse It circles the drain It goes where I go We’re one in the same I’m eager to lead But it holds the reigns It grants me no gain It will not be tamed A life spent in fear Only I am to blame

Shame has been with us for a long time. Adam and Eve hid themselves from God when they realized they were naked. Most of us are acquainted with our emotional nakedness. We as poets are more apt to expose ours. Through the showing of our nakedness we achieve a freedom of sorts.

Don't know how autobiographical this is, but it certainly resonates with me... What is most alarming is that I have passed on my shame and my fears, which so limited me in life, to one of my four children. My heart sinks as I watch him struggle. Provocatively penned, gw

Kind of sad in a way. Fear and worry have a way of taking us down. This was deep and lonely feeling but very nicely written and expressed.
