Unrequited Love

Akin to the shore’s beckoning of waves are we One day you’re north and I south; Yet a force exists that draws us together And such is its work now; Gladness feels me as it reflects from your face But to wonder about our well-known cycle, I cannot help- Of the calls to follow, bearing urgency of “morning” or “night” Concern-filled short messages, seeking fairings of the day Our planned meetings, to cover the uncovered mile by calls and messages Then silence’s ride to our solitary lives Partially I engage in our chat as my mind takes flight To those first minutes that would grow into these years A bond as such of roots and stem formed Sturdy we grew, each with a long term goal I held you as my future; you fondly called me friend Much we shared and compromises we made but for the main- Our hearts’ tango Implores from my side that you accept my love And more from yours that I accept your “love” Finally took their toll…the axe fell and drift we did The present calls back my attention And wearily I sigh at the distance amid our closeness Recount I do of the times we’ve tried to bring in neutrality Yet our arrows of love have held their stance You’ve always said the right one will come along “I stare at the right one”, my reply has been And though whys of your choice refused to lay low Unable they’ve been to thaw your heart As we bid our byes My earlier gladness empties as our backs head opposite Willing my heart to beat again not for a love that in your eyes will never be Contest: Unrequited Love (Nayda Ivette)
