Unrequited Love

Wandering my maze of memories In search of yesteryear The spark she struck within my heart Still burns in spite of tears Hand in hand we walked the halls Young love boldly displayed The classes we shared The moments we snared Our two hearts swept away That Saturday picnic in the spring 'Neath the canopy of juniper trees Our first forbidden lovers' touch No other eyes could see Innocence lost in a tender embrace For us there was no doubt Time stood still the fire burned hot The breeze could not put out It must have angered the powers that be Our love was unrequited A storm blew in the rain put out The flame which we'd ignited Our love was blind Fate was unkind A love not meant to be That memory branded in my mind How cruel love was to me an original poem by Daniel Turner

Daniel, Your poem is deeply affecting . . . a skillful balance of the sweet and the bitter. I hung onto every line. Beautifully done!

Thank you Paul. You are very kind. That first real love for everyone is an unforgettable experience. Mine was no different. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment, especially on my older poems.

I thought unrequited was love that was one sided. Was it the elements or the Gods that came between you two?

That's amazing.I just invited YOU to tea on your last poem. We are in a maze of words here. How does one "fist a pint?" I am not a pint person. Merloy if you please.

The definition is: unfulfilled. It sure wasn't the weather. You're just being silly. I am in love with your sense of humor and zest for life. Thank you for stopping by, maybe next time we can have a spot of tea or fist a pint in your case.

Continued thanks. Robert. I'm almost certain we have all suffered an unfortunate turn at fate at some point in our youth. Best wishes.

Dan, I had to come back because I forgot to ask if in line 3 you meant 'within' instead of the two word form you have now. Please know that my previous comment is what I feel, I just wanted to see if this was a correction you might want to make. ps. I have lived this poem.

This poem is so touching. Reverent to that first love that lit the torch, but also memorializing the slow distancing of the person we remember. Like Streisand's "Memories", we remember those things that kept us together for that time. Great write and a well deserved 7 in my book!
