Unreachable

UNREACHABLE

My heart is full of longing
For the days of yester year
I fear you are escaping
From all that was so dear

Going back instead of forward
Leaving empty spaces in my heart
My arms reach out in silent pain
Unable to hold you close again

My hands reach out but touch the air
My heart cries out in deep despair
I call your name
You are not there

I feel you slipping away
Nary a word
Lives drifting astray
Distances too great to measure
From the recesses in my heart

Unreachable even in my dreams
