Unmarried Beautiful

As a young beautiful black butterfly Fresh and uncultivated, Pure as gold and shiny as diamond A dream of every man. My mama is proud as Mt Kilimanjaro To have a daughter beautiful as rainbow Walks around with her neck held high like a giraffe She can’t stop thinking of the great bride price she will receive To proud to have the great treasure She deserve to marry a rich man Poor men will make her suffer and diminish her beauty I regret marrying her father for the sake of love Oh Lord save her from the mistakes I did She is an angel paradise should be her home. On my 30th still unmarried My mama is very worried Sadly she says it’s unbearable shame Are men blind nowadays The beauty of a woman is all that matters Behavior shall change after getting married. The prophet she went to see said I was cursed The witch doctor said I was bewitched I bathed with oil and water To remove the curse on me and to grow the glow in me But to no avail She cried in sorrow God why me? My neighbors daughters are getting married Mine is rotting inside the hut Mama Amina’s daughter went to Britain for her wedding Why I am not lucky ? Is not my daughter beautiful enough to be married Money doesn’t matter anymore, Just have my daughter married No man volunteers. You should pack your things she says Your uncle is coming to pick you up Early in morning before the sun rises Maybe the city won’t reject you It is a shame that even my grave can not bear.
