Unlearned Lessons
“Like most love stories,
this one began in utter foolishness.”
Against all odds and possibility.
Gilded sunsets
exquisite dawns
luminous tomorrows . . .
Promises.
And betrayal.
Looking into his eyes,
she saw reflected back
a perfect illusion of himself.
That absolute blue
like azure seas
fathomless depth and
simplicity.
On the horizon she saw unending
empty lifetimes reaching
for eternity.
He knew.
Their possibility
did not exist.
She awoke one morning to find
the fool at the foot of her bed.
A perfect reflection of herself in her eyes.
Laughing.
