Notes About The Poem

[ hear the song ]
Undertow, Take me, Reshape Me
Listen to poem:
My desire perches upon translucent bubbles of foam.
Sea-silk film quivers as shadows claim a home.
Hunger knots itself into a snare with fierce delight.
Sticky with salt crystals glimmering in the light.
I feel darkness settling like a tide within my chest.
Pulse pounding, breath held fast, body hard-pressed.
The surface thins, and with one heartbeat, I let go—
into the spiral, plunging deeper, seized by the flow.
Undertow, reshape me — teach me how to breathe below.
I am captain, I am steward, I am passenger of this soul.
Currents grind against my keel; the sand bed marks my years.
I veer in tears, pulled down by the tug of joys and fears.
Undertow, don’t let me go — lead me to where love learns slow.
Drop after drop hollows stone; waves erode what once seemed sure.
Time reworks its tools, as flotsam and wreckage drift ashore.
I patch my worn sails with scraps of my lost ideal.
Plug the gaps in mast and hull, and grip the wheel.
Knowing I cannot master water, only go with its flow.
Learning to clutch and release, re-grasp the undertow.
Undertow, reshape me — teach me how to breathe below.
Don’t let me go — lead me to where love learns, real slow.
Undertow, take me, reshape me, real slow — real slow.
