Understanding Pain

It was said
And it was not kind
It slides off of my back and into the alley
I do not carry it one inch further

It was said in anger
And in haste
This is not who this person is
I know now that she is hurting

I stay to listen
To learn
To console her
She begins to cry

Sometimes we forget, in our sense of aggravation or whatever, the needy are really suffering, too. I'm glad you stayed to listen.

I always stay to listen; everyone is going to get thrown into my "poetic material" and I mean everybody.
