Understanding In the Shadows

Understanding In The Shadows

When midnights shadows swallow me
I get this lonesome feeling.
Sometimes I know it's not for me
somewhere a heart is healing.

They're questioning I love you's
that were followed with goodbyes.
Thanking God for words unspoken,
at least they weren't more lies.

They're crying heartaches healing tears
right now they just can't take it.
Tomorrow though still broken
they'll know they're gonna make it.

There will be more tears to come
and fears they won't confess.
But there will come a day some day
it'll hurt a little less.

There will always be that aching need
and things that their heart craves.
But once a heart is broken,
hurt finds them in waves.

There's understanding in the shadows
for the lessons that you're learning.
But don't let the shadows swallow you
try to keep a candle burning.

Don't be startled by the night
if you should hear my voice.
The shadows are now home to me
but it was my own choice.

But I don't live here all alone
there's others struggling too.
Still I have chosen to remain
to help you make it through.
