Unconditional

UNCONDITIONAL

I love cats more than dogs
for their distant personalities
require little work
and dogs more than rats
because it comforts me
to know they watch over me
Rats more than birds
for they don't repeat boring songs
like old scratched vinyl discs
and course! they also feed my cats
Birds more than fish
because they clean up the scraps
left from so many banquets
I love fish more than insects
because they are never around
When they are, they are dead
and so I can suck their eyes
Insects more than worms
for they don't crawl
or survive my pesticide
and above all parasites
for they are the hope
to my egoist love
