Un Peu Piaf

Un peu piaf, rien de rien.
One makes memories, what do they mean?
Our small sparrow shall not fly again
when those notes fall on persons unseen.

Nothing for nothing, the time they spend
taking these steps, we can climb too tall.
In searching this earth to find one friend
much does not matter, not much at all.

Her vibrato voice marches to a trill
Edith's soulful songs mourn nothing then.
Tragic lyrics bend our heartfelt will
so truly too, rien de rien.

The torch of love light rises above her
God unites those who love each other.

Edith Piaf, the little sparrow, had a haunting, unique voice that moved millions. Her contribution to the lives of the French people and most of the rest of the world in the post WWII era is unmeasurable. We, as simple poets, can only hope to move a relative few. Yet we persist. Thank you for your comment.

As beautiful a sonnet as Édith Piaf's legendary voice Greg. Piaf being slang for sparrow of course. It's almost 75 years since she made "Life In Pink" (La Vie En Rose) famous - a song that's been covered by Lady Gaga, Bocelli, Grace Jones and I'm sure many, many more...and she regretted nothing. Funnily enough I was listening to Spark's tribute song to her " Édith Piaf said it better (than me) just an hour or so ago. :) Cheers Gary

A haunting trill Gary that lives in romantics like you and me. On occasion, it escapes into verse, a sonnet maybe. Thanks for the heartfelt comments and your visit. Bell well dear bard.
