Notes About The Poem

For Suzette Richards's "Go Fish" Contest

That moment when you revisit old artwork that once felt like a masterpiece, and now think, "What the heck is this abomination?!"

Two Lines, Waiting

Pencil strokes blacken the page
Crowds blur out around the scene
White leaf enlivened by sword and magic
Heroes journey through the frames
Worlds arise from fingertips
Ink spill out as though blood

Ink can't stain a wounded art
Fingers mar those black-lined strokes
Frames a prison from the crowd
Thoughts withheld remain white
Magic blur out from the scenes
Parchment smudged in pencil dust

I really like this. I can't understand the form but hopefully you did it right. It reads as profound

Thank you! I'm not 100% sure about the form as well (I think my poems tend to be more linear). This poem was written specifically about art/drawing, where the creations we once made with excitement and pride, but after reviewing it years later, it turns out to be more flawed than we remember it to be.
