Turning Fifty
I dreaded the age of fifty for years -
Half a century is such a bold mark!
It told of "old age" and all of its fears,
And the loss of that important spark.
When it came I began to feel cheated!
The signs of "old age" had somehow been missed.
The dire predictions had not succeeded
At fifty I had been passionately kissed!
Well, you see, that was thirty years ago.
The feelings of "old age" have now arrived.
I face each day without that golden glow,
But take comfort that I have been long lived.
Now I smile and look back to where I've been.
Lord, how I'd love to see fifty again!
