Turmoil
Tumultuous rivers submerged the streets.
Variegated shades of humankind
Cascading, unfettered by the clouds of
Fumes from the canisters and smoke grenades.
Guards turned against the guarded with bullets.
Although rubberized to reduce impact,
But enough to hurt without piercing skin
And leaving behind a black and blue smut.
Law’s knee on a black neck shut the airflow
Until he had surrendered to the knee.
People looked on from the banks in horror.
Their voices fell on rocks deaf to their pleas.
What follows depends on the strength of glue
Which has withstood the stress of centuries
Enshrined in the sacred constitution.
God bless America! And keep us free!
