Tug of War

Push-Pull leaders
demand your gripe
at either end of their
hangman's rope
Your willing hoist
of their own petard,
the Devil's foist
of his own retard.

"retard" in this sense="delay," as in delaying tactics.

1John 5:19.
Luke 4:5-8.
John 17:14-16.
Daniel 2:44,45.

"For tis the sport to have the enginer
Hoist with his own petar, and't shall go hard
But I will delve one yard below their mines
And blow them to the moon"

Hamlet.

In the 1980's a new wave, the world order so to speak,,,destroyed common sense, they had to, it was the only thing that could, morally expose them for what they are...Love your classic poetry, a breath of fresh air............!

My comments below, respectfully said, Harry. We draw comfort from different sources. I think humans are inclined to search for a "Father" of one type or another. Wether a "Spiritual leader" or "Political leader" - to care for and protect basic human needs. Then they face disappointments, humans are fallible, even the "best ones." Just a thought. Yes, My poems are often sparked by words that come to mind naturally- I read classics as a child, find the origin of words intriguing

A very interesting comment, Harry! Leaders always promising"Peace and Safety" for all, yet the only way that will happen is if every human being is able to " love their neighbour as themselves," from the heart! Your words reminded me of this: "All this I saw, keeping my mind on all the work that was done under the sun, at a time when man had control of man to his own harm." Ecclesiastes 8:9; 1Samuel Chapter 8. (Byington Bible).

"Push-Pull" at our thoughts and emotions is such a common occurrence in life, Aqua. Best to listen well, juggle the worth of words, then act according to common sense, and not by the allure of promises! Regards // paul

Exactly! While some human leaders have best intentions at heart, they are after all, only human. There is a desperation in the world to resolve basic human rights...but we cant be blind to corruption and power in the hands of those who cant keep their promises. History repeats itself with alarming familiarity... "Love your neighbour as yourself," starts at home...Thank you again for your welcome comments! Much appreciated,Paul!

A tug of war it surely is my friend. Darkness trying to overcome and out pull Light. With man- a fallen creature darkness has certain leeway/advantages but Light-God's countenance and power can never be defeated. A very fine poem, its message and its truth is in its message that at stake is our mortal souls. A fav.. a shining gem

A great comment, Robert! You have clarified the problems with rulership today....Terrible disappointments about broken promises are evidence that leaders are not "superhuman" at all! And the mistakes they make while in power often have far reaching long term effects...Better to do ones best to be good to those that we can, individually, and not expect much from human rulership. No politician can "make " us be caring and compassionate. Up to us to do that! Warm regards, Aqua M

:D...That's why we need to speak up ourselves- and keep the "good" fires burning! ( to the best of our abilities - and even when its a struggle to do so...) (((Hugs!!)))

There will always be debates..especially political ones...Might seem strange, but even the Devil is allowed freedom of speech. That means each human has freedom of choice in taking sides, in any debate. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment, Silent One- it helps me be not-so-silent, in picking up where I left off with my poetry, and posting. I have so many unfinished drafts - and it takes me time to get a poem done to the way I want it. I love writing, thank you for your visit and commentsz (((Hugs)))
