Truth within a lie
I wish you could truly see me, the part of my soul that lingers silently as I watch you. There’s a space within me, filled with my fears and the echoes of past hurt, a secret place where tears have fallen. I hope you’ve never noticed this hidden entrance, surrounded by swirling emotions.
As my confidence blossomed in your presence, all I wanted was to express my feelings with a kiss, but uncertainty held me back. I wondered whether you even recognized my existence. You bring me peace and happiness with just a gentle touch, and my affection for you, dear Sargent, runs deep.
Yet, I stand at a distance, admiring you in your uniform, feeling so close yet so far away. I carry a love for you that has never been completely unveiled, longing for you to see the real me. My dreams of connection often feel just out of reach, and what I yearn for does not always come to fruition.
Then, one night, my wish seemed to come true as we shared a moment together, but the next day brought a painful reality. I learned you belonged to another soldier, and in that moment, I felt invisible, as if you looked right through me. It felt like a betrayal of the connection we had shared.
Returning home, I felt lost and confused, grappling with what was real and what was not. All I could do was cry after that perfect night together. The one moment that felt like a lifetime of true love. As I returned to the unit and stood in formation, I felt the weight of heartbreak urging me to leave quickly, but I stood and waited until it was over, then went to my section. I could not find the words to say when the day was over, so I just went home.
To have shared that one night with you felt like the gift of a lifetime, yet I know you may never truly see the real me. In this, I find both a blessing and a bittersweet ache for both of us.
