TRUTH BOUND BY NEGLECT
Bearing the laws once carved out in stone
there lies a treasure, safe on my shelf.
Countless promises, most yet unknown,
are found in this book like ore in a delf,
unopened, unmined - its knowledge I postpone.
Gathering dust, this idol, my "golden calf"
catches my eye but I leave it alone.
Blessings buried, how the devil must laugh.
Durable leather, skillfully sewn,
intricate artwork, many a graph,
elegant gilding, the author disowned.
Bare truth that can part the wheat from the chaff,
songs that could lighten heartache's sad drone,
message of hope written for mankind's behalf,
but bound by neglect, its mercy cannot atone.
Blessings buried, how the devil must laugh.
