Trusting Eyes

Scuttled in a sea of tears, dreams drown,
and yet, the tears keep on trickling down.
You wear a smile to conceal sad tears
behind a facade that hides your fears.
A broken heart dreams of magic wings
to flee from the shame rejection brings.
Yet, forbidden fruit oft tastes sublime,
if only for a moment in time.
You feel bewildered, like a caged dove
confronting a future without love.
And reality's held with less grip;
falling away as hope starts to slip.
Trust slips blindfolds over trusting eyes;
hiding the truth behind veils of lies.
And faith fuels frustration of late,
adding its weight to the hand of fate.
You cringe at the fringes of disdain,
alone and abandoned to your pain.
And as time slowly consumes your day
fantasies fade, though heartaches stay.
