Trust the Heart

Strangers meet, say hello.
Drift on having meant nothing.
Chance enters and they speak.
Surprise to both; a meeting.
She sees into his very soul.
The pain and loneliness,intense.
He looks and is shocked to see
Caring and longing, locked away.
They reach out, but jump back.
It frightens both; like knowing.
How can this be happening?
Both had promised; never again.
Unlocking the heart leads to pain.
Both turn as if to run away.
Glance back and turn to reach out.
Should they trust to try again?
