Notes About The Poem

Truman was my Golden Retriever pooch that had passed away a few years ago. I've always had dogs and cats in my life, but Truman was the "Bestest"

Truman

I wept, and I sighed...the day that he died
We were the "Bestest" friends all of his life
Our friendship was pure, that can't be denied
Even though, he slept next to my ex-wife
He never, ever...caused me any strife
We would take long walks, spend hours in the park
As we ran side-by-side, till it got dark
My love for my friend...forever, be kept
I can still hear his voice, his playful bark
The day that he died, I sighed...and I wept

my dear friend Charles...I too have lost such best friends. I lost 2 dogs and a bunny in one year. That's when I stopped writing here and basically gave up on life. Pets are our whole lives (I feel that way) and it tears us up knowing they are gone. My hope is to see them at the rainbow bridge one day. You will see your Truman too :) Be blessed dear Charles. Great poem as always I am never surprised to see you on winners list. Congratulations on your placement and thank you for your participation. x:-)-luloo

Luloo, I am so sorry about your losses :( You will see them over the rainbow and when you do, they will lick your beautiful face and heart endlessly. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Weeping is never a bad thing..it's proof that we have a loving heart. Life is hard after a loss but we have to stay strong and battle through it. God has a plan my dear friend. :) x :-)-Charlie

Thank you so much M.A. After homing, feeding, bathing, caring for and loving a pet for so many years, one can easily be heartbroken after a loss. Truman gave facial expressions human like (lol). When I talked to him and he pondered what I was saying.. he would raise his left eyebrow with a baffling look on his face.. just adorable. Thanks for you lovely comments :)

aww Charlie. I know the pain of that 'bestest' friend loss. I had to put down my 16 year old Sheltie, Kaci. I still mourn for him. Your words woke the memories in my heart.

Hi Lin, so very sorry about Kaci :( The beautiful thing about life and death is the memories we hold dearly. Thanks for visiting.. I'll send a special prayer for him tonight :)
