True Voice

Occasionally I am allowed to write
with what, I think, is my true voice.
When that happens,
the words do flow,
the words do scan,
and there is effortless,
rhythm and
rime.

It all works as one single piece,
with hardly a need to correct and tweak.
A voice from deep within that speaks
so clear and so well,
I wonder if I'm under a spell and
can't really claim it as
mine

Most times that voice is declined
strangled by an ugly beast inside
that commits mundane lines
and subjects me to poetic fines.

That is why this daily grind
to batter the beast,
to free the voice that is
mine.
