True song

Laurel, remember,
you are the best ending
to every beginning

Day, translation,
night, and song

I’ll paint you
the color of quiet

the unassuming shadows,
and the never-taking earth

You are the finest details,
never hungry for attention

My triangle is filled
with butterflies
still burning
vivid blue

you are the corky, wise
tidbits of humor
in all my favorite corners:

a Kermit the frog
dial phone,

a smiling cat ridding
a chicken
on the face
of a broken clock

can I ride the swirls
of your silver hair?
