True Love Lost

He was the one true love of my life.
We spent happy days, tender nights.
But it was not to be, then he was gone,
First to another, then to the beyond.
I thought I could never love again,
I had given all I had, my soul spent.
There were others who filled the void
But I always kept him in me, still…
The memories of him, always there,
Bring me warmth, never tears.
For I was blessed to know how love
Can enrich a life and make it whole.
