Tropical Thoughts

Tropical Thoughts

Gangrened toes, vitrified nose
stuffed and starched in puffy clothes

Howling wind biting into my cheek
painful reminder of Dexter’s technique

Cracking boots, frozen bones,
ready to crumble like yesterday’s scones

I dream of roasting on some desert plain
and promise in August to never complain.

I love that you put in a line that leaves us wondering... who is Dexter? It's like that line in the movie 'Silverado...' right out of nowhere, 'Where's the dog?' Marvelous couplet rhyming, striking imagery and magnificent language! Best wishes, Keith

Hi Keith - Dexter is cable TV series in which the main character, Dexter, is a blood splatter analyst for the Police Dept. However, his true calling is the murder of bad guys by whatever means, then cutting them up with an electric saw and dumping the bagged body parts into the ocean. It is one of my favorite shows. love, Kathy

Thanks Kathryn. This was a good poem. I had to educate myself on the word "vitrified". With that knowledge I can only assume that Dexter was either a glass maker or an alchemist. I'm always open to enlightenment. Rockman :-)

Sometimes I check out synonyms and I learn a few. Now Dexter, on the other hand, is an HBO show about a serial killer. Very dark - I love it. Kathy
