Notes About The Poem

She was simply... the best! ...

Tribute To Emily Dickinson

Demure in her pose, modest in her ways
Deflecting potential beaus, careful not to stray

Brief in conversation, shunning repartee
Halting in her laughter, her faint smile shadowy

Eyes fixed on the ground, hair pulled tautly back
Lips pursed tight together, her figure corset-wracked

Yet deep within dwelt beauty, of a type so rarely seen
Her eternity of timeless verse, visionary... and pristine

A great piece on a great poet Gershon, great imagery and fine insightful thoughts. Did you catch the movie about Emily D a few years ago, I got it on DVD and it was a good movie. Blessings,Gordon

Thank you for the sincerity of your comment, Caren. (Try "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" and/or Success is Counted Sweetest" to get rolling with Emily D. … Of course, there are so many great ones ... My guess is that you'll find her fascinating). :) gw

A beautiful portrait and tribute - a 3 dimensional image is bought to mind - I can see her walking. Must re-read some of her poetry now!

Yes, yes, Virginia. Do so!! My favorites are "I Had No Time to Hate," and "Success is Counted Sweetest," but there are so many dozens of 'faves' from which to choose. Happy reading! Best wishes, Gershon

Oh this is lovely Gershon! You have described her perfectly. She has the innate ability to make you feel her feelings through her poetry. I end up sighing in wonder at her works. A beautiful tribute to an even more beautiful lady who took poetry to elevated levels. Thank you for this treat! : )
